An Afternoon in Stratford, London
I always like to keep my ear to the ground when fun things pop up in London. The Wanderlust bug can affect me in my home city, so alternative things always pique my interest.
I’ve had a friend in town from the US who came to speak at an event we put on and then had two days for us to cram things into this weekend, so here’s a snippet of what we got up to yesterday!
We met at Westfield White City and then got the underground tube to Westfield Stratford, which are huge shopping centres, although White City is my fav, Stratford is pretty special as its home to the Olympic London 2012 legacy also.
At Westfield Stratford there’s a pop up store, only open until November 8th (So get yourselves down there sharpish!) of customised KITKAT’s. It’s like a miniature chocolate factory. #kitkatchocolatory
- Open till: Nov 8th 2016
- Times Open: 10:30am – 7:30pm & Sundays 12 – 6pm
- Where: Westfield Stratford on The Street.
- Money: They don’t take cash / only card ( NOT Amex)
Warning: It can take a while, so head straight there, order it and then go and do your shopping. Anything from 60 mins – 3 hours depending on how busy it is!
Here’s how it works!
You get greeted by one of their lovely staff and head over to an available touch screen and it’ll guide you through.

- Select up to 3 toppings: Buttery Shortbread / Caramelised pistachios / chocolate brownie crumbs / crushed cocoa nibs / crumbled coconut macaroons / crushed roasted hazelnuts / desiccated coconut / dried raspberries / fragrant pink rose petals / golden honeycomb / juicy cranberries/luscious meringue / mini marshmallows / salted caramel chunks / salted pretzels / sticky caramelised popcorn
- Customise your packaging from some cool designs
- Pick a Name and pre made message
- Pop your mobile number in and turn to the lady on the left and pay!
You then go off and do other stuff and should get a text message when your order is ready or head over to watch some being made there and then…
The bars are £7 or you can buy some special edition ( already made) ones in an array of crazy flavours for £3.50. They do have to be eaten within 5 days, so perhaps don’t buy the contents of the WHOLE store, but if you’ve got some birthdays coming up, they are perfect!
The staff were absolutely AMAZING, so feel free to ask for a picture!
In between waiting for our KITKAT’s, we headed over to what was the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The Olympic Stadium is now home to Premier League Football Team, West Ham United. To the left you have the Arcelormittal Orbit ( My last trip there) which has now added a slide! At the entrance you have the aquatics centre and then further in, you’ll come across some amazing spaces such as the Copper Box which still hold a number of great sporting events.
There are Santander bikes at the entrance of the complex, so feel free to hop on those and go and explore the whole area. Here’s an example of how to spend the afternoon! They do Stadium and trail tours, so check out more information here.
Throwback to the time I was lucky enough to enter for the Opening Ceremony here at the London 2012 Olympics! Still won of my best life memories…
And back for the all important KITKAT’s
We then popped back on the tube to Bank Station and did the 5 minute walk to one of my favourite restaurants, Hawksmoor. This time in Guildhall.
We kicked off with a Grapefruit Picador cocktail which is a blend of tequila, velvet falernum, lime juice and grapefruit sherbet. For someone who doesn’t like grapefruit, this was lush!
The girls had Bone marrow with Onions and I went for Brixham crab on toast. Followed by a ribeye steak, triple cooked chips and spinach, with one of the girls also ordering a whole lobster! Paired with a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon to go with my main…
I finished with sticky toffee pudding and clotted cream – could I finish? Yep good steak does that to you.
Massive thanks to Naomi ( and Joe) – it’s staff like these why I return to places, they were great! and a lil surprise for the birthday girl!
We then walked 5 minutes round the corner to Dirty Martini, St Paul’s Wood Street to finish off the night for another friends birthday and THAT wrapped up our Saturday on the east side of the city.
