Diary Entry: Stepping into 2019

It’s been a busy start to the year for me. I say that like busy is foreign to my life in someway! LOL.

I finished my role at my previous workplace where I was for 7.5 years, and moved over to the new role (which I’d been doing part time for a year) full time.  Change is incredibly important sometimes and although I learnt some invaluable skills, lessons etc and worked alongside some fantastic people. I was ready for the next chapter and so far it’s been an absolute blast. I’m surrounded by these creative, intelligent inspiring people and it’s a joy to watch them work if I’m honest, so I’m ready to learn all over again!

This is also why the blog has been lacking somewhat! Teamed with some very important building work going on at home. ( Yes I also have a secret obsession for interiors!)

However one of my highlights for the first quarter of 2019 has to have been, the honour of joining the Women in Travel CIC BAME panel at their very first event. The event took place at the RSA in March and I was joined by some incredibly esteemed fellow amazing women. Stephanie Takyi, Mansoureh Farahani, Sasha Ho Farris Nyirabu, Fiona Anderson – Director of GEC PR and hosted by the powerhouse Eulanda Shead Osagiede of Dipyourtoesin & BAME women in Travel & Alessandro Alonso of women in Travel. Our shared experience showed us all how invaluable these spaces are in order for us to navigate the travel industry in a variety of ways.

I guess its moments like these where I remind myself how much of a big deal @rjsholidays truly was, from 1987 to 2016 absolutely paving the way for those mostly from black backgrounds who had a common interest in both travel and music and taking over 100 – 300 people to a new country each year. It was by no means an easy feat and I can’t escape a conversation about RJS to this day, but I truly am humbled to know we were part of so many people’s first travel journeys.
